just read the incentives structure for validators. really excited to see Loom's DPoS gain traction! understand that its more art then science, but how did the Loom team come up with those figures/thresholds when coming up with the rewards? e.g. 20% max annual release of LOOM, lock-up bonuses for higher lock-up periods, etc.

Tnx for the quick reply, but the whole problem is that it won't let me deploy without karma 😄 as far as I'm aware every transaction sent to the testnet requires karma, but I've read somewhere on DelegateCall that that's only the case with testnets, and the mainnet version will acually allow users to send transactions without having karma

If you want to use your own Loom SDK-based sidechain, there’s an associated loom token needed to create those sidechain. Anything beyond the creation is free. If you want to use the PlasmaChain (basically a hosted version of the previous one) there’s a monthly fee

Ludos youre right, they haven't shipped anything, however they appear to me to have a working product already and are holding off on publicizing it. They literally have Softbank and a ton of other huge partners onboard. Im sure those guys dont invest in vaporware. This is why I started taking the project seriously. Not to invest, just to see how they progress. But this is I guess another good point which is on partnerships. I read through the blog and my impression was there is a strong developer community, a lot of efforts made to get people building on loom. The thing I did not see is the institutional partners

But you might have a game running on that blockchain or sidechain, and instead of just offering it scalability, you're also offering players a way to tokenise some in game assets and sell it for gold eth, trade to some players things like this. What are loom adversaries?

I don't want to get in trouble as this is Loom chat but I mentioned a few before that I'm researching. Enjin is most obvious competitor, but in terms of sidechains and corporate partnerships, Ludos Protocol is the dark horse I'm watching. And Loom of course has the first mover advantage and lots of amazing games on it already.

Absolutely. That's why I'm most drawn to Loom right now also. However, as an investor I want to consider exposure to the broader industry. I don't believe any one project will thoroughly dominate. As you see time and time again, nascent industries spawn a few competing standards and companies and it will be narrowed down over time. Therefore it's always good to be seeing what else is out there, who has a real shot at making blockchain gaming a reality or even just tapping into gaming in general (high growth market)

I know you dont want to talk about it as they dont have the product public but the concept is something I found super interesting so Im curious how this can work on Loom. Ludos made a big deal out of the partnership they have in Japan with FullPay, it's a kind of wechat affiliate or something. And they have what seems like an Apple Pay equivalent that you use the apps for. This is my understanding anyway. I dont use those apps. The process is meant to go like this: Play Game on Ludos -> Earn the game items -> Game item is NFT -> Sell or trade item on Ludos NFT exchange -> Receive a stable coin -> Use this to purchase real life items from retailers using the full pay application in Japan. Can Loom replicate this somehow? I freaking love the idea of gamers being able to basically cash out and buy real life stuff. I actually had some old accounts banned when I palyed more for boosting and selling accounts. Doing that legit would be sick. If I understand right, Loom you can do most of it. You can go Game -> Item -> NFT ... however its teh part of going NFT into usable currency I wonder if there is a solution to it.

Thats an odd request. In this space, doing that is like making a fantasy sports team. Good fun but mostly fictional. For developers there are alternatives to Loom with eth-only deployments, eos, and tron. But this realistic picture is not very dramatic.

As for returning an array, you can work around that requirement by having two view functions in solidity, one to return the size of the array and another to return an item in the array by index. But CryptoKitties returned a dynamically sized array when you called getKittiesByOwner. It doesn't scale very well and even as a view function would exceed the amount of time that MetaMask allowed for calling view functions when there were tons of Kitties

That's one of Loom's main goals, evolving and scaling Solidity and Ethereum in general. A lot more complex contracts are possible on Loom than on Mainnet. But keeping the busywork on the front end and not on chain is still useful in either case. The blockchain should only be used for operations that require the security of the chain.

I mean, in the case of an RPG, the fact that you own a backpack and the backpack contains 10 items is not really relevant to the blockchain. The blockchain could just store that you have 11 items. Your dApp could also have a server that stored the fact that your backpack actually contains the other 10 items, but the blockchain doesn't really have to care unless there's some important game function on-chain that needs to know that information. If the game's servers are hacked, all the hacker could do is rearrange your items in and out of your backpack (the horrors). They couldn't actually steal your items.

Someone from Loom needs to report the scam or pin a warning here. It looks really real. (I remember Loom did do airdrops in the early days). So far they’ve scammed over 100 eth.
