I see the examples but not really a breakdown of the different parts. For example I can see the Meta() and Init() functions being used but how and why are they used? Or a a short explaination of types and why protobuf is used? A good tutorial on creating a Loom contract from scratch would be great.

Admin one question, if the price of loom token on your website is 1.99$ doesn't it mean the price in the overall market won't exceed it? If it would, they would simply buy in the website and sell in exchanges

Is there a mainnet at all ? Since DApps each have their sidechain, my understanding is they all point to the Ethereum mainnet and that's it. Now there's also a plan to get ZombieChain and GameChain live, and these aim to be shared sidechains for devs to launch their DApps on for starters.

thought i'd follow up to let you guys know that article i wrote about Fiat to utility tokens is now live. This uses an off-chain trusted transaction with the stripe api, also pluggable with other providers like square, and i wrote a custodial contract that actually allows the user to take their application GUID and go look on etherscan at how many tokens are held for that user within the custodial contract. this ensures 100% transparency of tokens to be backed by purchases and is 100% auditable by anyone at any time versus the Tether fiasco and also allows for people to deposit their existing tokens into the custodial contract for use within the application, or withdraw from the contract when they feel comfortable enough to manage their own crypto

A critical aspect of any sidechain solution is how it syncs with the mainnet. I have seen references to the Loom Relay, and DelegateCall seems to use one but it is closed source. Why does Loom not clearly explain how this works? The loom SDK makes it easy to create a private blockchain like HyperLedger Fabric, etc. but the significant advantage of Loom is supposed to be seamless integration with Ethereum. Can anyone clearly explain or link to an explanation for how Loom syncs with the Ethereum mainnet?

There will be updates, but it won't be as much as you expected. The reason why blockchain like EOS can be so fast, is because it sacrifices decentralization which is the entire point of using blockchain in the first place. I think the ethereum core dev in the long run is going to push layer 2 solutions as the mechanism to improve scalability, this is why they are developing plasma that allows for sidechain to leverage the strong decentralization of ethereum mainnet.

UTXO was really an optimization bitcoin did to save space, the only advantage is you can split to multiple destinations. Plasma Cash uses it cause its easier to prove and validate transfers

Hi all, I have a couple questions and would appreciate any help. I am on lesson five, and there is a contract called zombieownership that inherits from er721.sol. My questions are: 1) in the ERC721 contract, there are functions defined(declared?) that lack bodies (don't even have curly brackets). What is the purpose of this? 2) In the zombieownership contract, the instructions are to rewrite the functions with bodies relevant to the game. Why bother inheriting and then rewriting the same functions that are included in the inherited contract?

so far as I know `createRandomZombie` in zombiefactory.sol actually create transaction since it requires writing in state. Then shouldn't it be payable? Im trying to create my contract but seems like `call` is not enought for this behavior.

no. payable is for when you send ETH to a contract

Function needs to be payable only when you are sending ETH to contract. If you just change contract state, but are not sending any additional ether, it doesn't need to be payable.
